Manaia, is located in the Okuti Valley – a four kilometer drive from the turnoff from the State Highway just south of Little River. Manaia’s intention is to promote this rare and distinct ecosystem with extensive new plantings of native trees, thus extending the habitat and food sources for all native birds.

A must see destination at Birdlings Flat beach. This is a selection of fossils and gemstones in a raw and polished form all off the beach or collected by Vince on his rock hounding expeditions to the mountains and rivers of our country.
Although Canterbury does not have many mineral resources, some places such as Birdlings Flat, south of Banks Peninsula, are popular among rockhounds. The beach is rich in gemstones, particularly agates, which are sought-after for making jewellery.
